Change Management: Communications Plan for Schedule Pilot, Spring 2020
Background
As part of its transition from seven colleges to one, Dallas College launched a new course scheduling process. The change in process launching on the heels of a shift to entirely online course delivery due to the pandemic, created a volatile situation. As a sensitive topic with faculty, the communication for these significant changes required careful planning. Staff testimonials were an important part of the communication plan because this specific audience is significantly influenced by the opinions of their peers.
Key Responsibilities
- Developed communication plan
- Wrote communication from the Provost
- Assisted with Town Hall script for Chancellor and Provost
Outcome
Because we were able to leverage messaging from the Chancellor along with carefully timed messages from the Provost, response to the new process was favorable. The open and click through rates were above average for Provost messages at 67% and 23% respectively.

Employee messaging: Who, What, Where; Spring 2019
Background
During the spring of 2019, change was in the air. News that the seven colleges of the Dallas County College system would be consolidating was just beginning to circulate and many employees were on the move in an effort to position themselves for the transition. It was increasingly difficult for staff to keep track of who was responsible for specific functions and the frequent movement of colleagues felt disruptive to college operations. The solution took shape in the form of a simple, but attractive monthly email designed to keep employees informed of staff changes. The communications team worked with Human Resources to ensure that information was accurate and up to date.
Key Responsibilities
- Concept development
- Art direction
Outcome
Employees shared their sincere appreciation for the monthly communication. The average open rate was 82%, more than 50 points above the average open rate.
